Description
Indications
Pen-300 is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by bacteria sensitive to penicillin.
Contra indications
Do not use in case of hypersensitivity to one or more of the ingredients.
Do not use in case of infections caused by penicillinase-producing micro-organisms.
Do not administer intravenously.
Do not combine with bacteriostatic antibiotics.
Do not use in sheep producing milk for human consumption.
Side effects
Allergies to penicillin have been observed but these are very rare. If such signs of sensitivity occur, stop medication and call your veterinarian. In some instances, particularly if respiratory distress is severe, immediate injection of epinephrine or antihistamine may be necessary. Potentially fatal reactions associated with the administration of procaine penicillin in horses have been observed. In sucking and fattening pigs, administration of products containing procaine penicillin may cause transient pyrexia, vomiting shivering, listlessness and incoordination. In pregnant sows and gilts, a vulval discharge which could be associated with abortion has been reported.
Dosage
Large animals – 12 mg/kg (1 ml per 25 kg body weight) by deep IM injection.
Small animals – 30 mg/kg (1 ml per 10 kg body weight) by IM or SC injection.
Shake well before use. Treatment may be repeated at 24 hour intervals for up to 5 administrations. Do not use the same injection site more than once during a course of treatment. Do not administer more than 20 ml in cattle and horses or more than 5 ml in calves, sheep and goats per injection site.
Withdrawal times
– For meat and offal:
Cattle: 6 days.
Sheep: 4 days.
Swine: 5 days
Horses: 6 months.
– Milk:
Cattle: 7 days.
