Suspension for parenteral administration

Description

Cefquinome is an antibacterial of the fourth generation cephalosporin. These antibacterials work via inhibition of the cell wall synthesis. It is a bactericidal with a wide therapeutic spectrum of action and high stability against penicillinases and beta lactamases.

Indications

For treatment of bacterial infections in cattle and swine caused by cefquinome sensitive Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria.
Cattle:
– Respiratory conditions caused by Pasteurella multocida and Mannheimia haemolytica.
– Digital dermatitis (Mortellaro’s sickness),  infectious bulbar necrosis and acute interdigital necrobacillosis.
– Acute Escherichia coli mastitis coupled with signs of systemic phenomena.

Calf: E. coli septicaemia in calves.

Swine:
– Bacterial infections of lungs and respiratory tract caused by Pasteurella multocida, Haemophilus parasuis, Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, Streptococcus suis and other cefquinome-sensitive organisms.
E. coli, Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp. and other cefquinome-sensitive micro-organisms involved in Mastitis-metritis-agalactia syndrome (MMA).

Piglet:
– Reduction of mortality in cases of meningitis causes by Streptococcus suis
– Arthritis caused by Streptococcus spp., E. coli and other cefquinome sensitive micro-organisms.
– Epidermitis caused by Staphylococcus hyicus.

Contra indications

Do not administer to animals overly sensitive to cephalosporins or other beta lactam antibiotics. Do not apply to animals with a body weight lower than 1.25 kg. Do not use in poultry destined for human consumption (including eggs) due to the risk of spreading of antimicrobial resistance to humans.

Side effects

Local tissue reactions can be observed. Tissue lesions recover within 15 days after last administration of the product. Hypersensitivity for cephalosporins is rare.
